The Biggest Lesson I've Learned In The Last Month

Life will "learn you some things" if you're paying attention...

Man… this is such a loaded question. The last few years have taught me so many lessons. Like… literally at least 18 lessons. (Maybe I’ll do a podcast about it). However, if there is one lesson in particular that I’d like to highlight that I think would be beneficial to you, as the reader, it would be this…

We are responsible for our own happiness.

It sounds simple, right? However, I (and countless other people that I have encountered) have tried to make happiness something that has to be felt outside of ourselves. We often wait for someone that is NOT us to make us happy. Why is that?

Why place such a large responsibility in the care of someone who doesn’t know you as well as you know yourself? Yet, we do it more often than not.

Happiness May Be Circumstantial But...

We let our circumstances dictate our happiness and not our happiness to set the tone of our circumstance - whether it's ideal or not. I hear so many single women who think thing getting married is going to make them happy. (I’ve been married before and I want to encourage you not to put that level of pressure on your spouse. It's not fair to him OR to you).

Some of us think that getting that job, making more money, losing weight, moving to a new state – that any of these external things can make us happy. But you know what? It won’t.

Happiness Is A Right, Not A Privilege

Sis, you DESERVE to be happy. Not because of someone else though – because of YOU. You have to find things that make you happy and do them OFTEN. I know what you’re thinking, “How am I supposed to do that?” I’m glad you asked. Here’s what I used to tell my former clients and current friends. I hope they are helpful to you.

  • Who inspires you?

  • Who is the last person that you told, “I love you”?

  • What is one thing that you did as a child that made you happy?

  • What is one thing that you eat that makes you feel good?

  • When is the last time you laughed REALLY hard?

  • Are you happy with your current job? If not, what is the one thing that you would do every day?

  • What do you think about that excites you?

  • When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing that you think about?

These are journal prompts for me and help me to guide and guard my heart. My happiness is my responsibility and I treat it as such. I OWN MY HAPPINESS!!!

Now... GO GET IT!

So… what will you do today to own your happiness? I’d love to hear from you! You can catch me in these internet streets. Follow me on Instagram.
